My life has been one of many identities; each one has made the man that I am. To think when I was younger, or married or having children, that one day I would eventually be an artist would have never been thought about. To say that I am an artist is more of a conjecture than a fact. I am and probably will always be striving to make what I would myself accept as art. I have striven for much of the last half of my life on this planet to produce that one special and memorable piece that everyone would recognise and remember as my masterpiece. Of course that will never really happen, as even the most famous artists never knew what was their masterpiece that is usually decided by others in the future.
So what drives me, well I need that spark like all artists which gives me the reason for starting or even finishing my artwork. I love that I am gradually thinking more for myself, and not using other artists’ works. But even then you cannot get away from perhaps using someone else’s technique or idea. This doesn’t really matter; because the one thing I do know, is that before any of the artwork you produced there was nothing. It’s a bit like being born, before that you didn’t exist. So suddenly there is something that didn’t exist to show others.
My favoured medium is acrylic on board or canvas, but the medium I have used for sometime now and takes up much more of the time I spend on my art is coloured pencils on art paper. Gradually I am getting better, but I have a long way to go. What I have found nice about it all is that your art is like a diary of your life, like that child that was born growing and learning and eventually mastering.
